What SheetMTD is

SheetMTD is a Google Sheets™ add-on that lets you keep tax records in your own spreadsheet and submit Making Tax Digital for Income Tax quarterly updates to HMRC.

What we access and why

• Your current spreadsheet only. The add-on uses Google's most limited spreadsheet permission (spreadsheets.currentonly): it can read and write only the spreadsheet it is open in, and only while you are using it. It cannot see your other files or Drive.
• Your email address. Used to identify your licence (free or paid) and to send deadline reminders if you opt in.
• Permission to make external requests (script.external_request). This lets the add-on send your quarterly figures to HMRC's official API when you click submit, and check your licence status. It is used for no other external connection.
• Permission to show its interface inside your sheet (script.container.ui). This lets the add-on display its sidebar, deadline countdown, and review-and-submit confirmation within the open spreadsheet. It shows no interface anywhere else.
• Figures you choose to submit. When you click submit, the summary totals from your sheet are sent directly from the add-on to HMRC's official API over an encrypted connection. We show you exactly what will be sent before it goes.

What we store

• Licence records — your email, plan, and subscription status (payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store card details).
• Submission log — the fact that a submission was made (period dates, business type, timestamp) so you have a receipt history. We do not store the contents of your records on our servers; your records stay in your Google Sheet.
• Sign-ups — if you request the free template, we store the email you give us.

What we never do

• No selling or sharing of your data with third parties for marketing.
• No advertising in the add-on.
• No access to your HMRC account beyond the permissions you grant on HMRC's own consent screen, which you can revoke at any time at gov.uk.

Where data lives

Licence and log data are stored with Supabase in the EU (Ireland). Payments are handled by Stripe. HMRC submissions go directly to HM Revenue & Customs.

Google API Services disclosure

SheetMTD's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google Workspace data is used only to provide the add-on's user-facing features and is never used for advertising, never sold, and never read by humans except with your explicit consent for support, for security, or as required by law.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time by emailing support@sheetmtd.co.uk. You can cancel a subscription at any time; record-keeping features remain free. You have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
